About Dr. Danielle Armour Certified Sex Therapist & Licensed Psychotherapist
Hi, I’m Dr. Danielle Armour.
I know that true healing and intimacy require us to honor the whole self—our nervous systems, our stories, and the physical bodies we inhabit.
As a licensed psychotherapist, clinical sexologist, AASECT-certified sex therapist, and author of Awaken Your Body, Awaken Your Desire, I specialize in bridging the neuroscience of stress with the art of harnessing your sexual prowess. I’m my authentic self with my clients—I show up and let myself be seen. I have boundaries and good ethics, but what you see is what you get. I’m transparent. I’ll challenge you. You’ll be seen and heard, but I won’t sugarcoat anything. I’m me, and you are you; we can all show up fully.
You can’t overthink or analyze your way into real pleasure. If your mind is racing, your body is bracing, and intimacy feels like just another demanding task on your endless to-do list, you don’t need generic advice or mechanical instructions. You need to get back inside your body and take back your power and your pleasure.
I am committed to helping you, and yours enrich your lives—by empowering you to unpack what’s preventing you from fully embracing all of life’s pleasures.
My Journey & Clinical Approach:
Decades of Depth
I forged my clinical expertise over nearly two decades across high-acuity healthcare systems, including home care, hospitals, hospice, community mental health, and emergency social work. Sitting across from thousands of clients navigating trauma, grief, and burnout, I uncovered a critical clinical pattern: chronic stress hijacks the human capacity for pleasure. When your nervous system is stuck in survival mode (HPA-axis activation), your body naturally powers down sexual vitality and desire to keep you safe.
Traditional approaches often fail because they treat sexual health as either purely psychological or strictly mechanical. My work closes that gap.
A Synthesis of Science, Somatics & Evidence
Doctoral Expertise in Clinical Sexology: My doctoral research focused on female sexual dysfunction, the neuroscience of desire, and body-based healing—culminating in my book, Awaken Your Body, Awaken Your Desire.
Bottom-Up Somatic Integration: As an AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist, Gottman Method Practitioner, and Somatic Educator, I synthesize top-down cognitive reframing with bottom-up polyvagal nervous system regulation and body-based practices. This dual relational and somatic lens allows me to work deeply with individuals and couples—helping partners untangle desire mismatches, regulate together under stress, and build lasting, shame-free intimacy.
Translating Neurochemistry to Vitality: I don't give generic relaxation advice or tell you to "just have a glass of wine." Sexual vitality is always bio-psycho-social, an interplay of your biology, your psychological state, and your relational environment. I teach you how to shift your body from protection to pleasure by retraining your nervous system, optimizing genital blood flow, untangling cultural shame, and restoring authentic erotic capacity.
Intimacy is not simply a cognitive puzzle to be solved—it is an embodied experience. I provide the clinical rigor, strategic roadmap, and, when appropriate, the somatic tools you need to stop overthinking and come fully back to life.
Who I Am Behind the Credentials
If you look at my picture, you’ll immediately get a sense of how I operate. I have zero interest in fitting into neat, traditional boxes or conforming to "how a doctor should look." Shaving my head liberated me from rigid gender norms and aesthetic expectations—a quiet rebellion that fuels both my life and my practice.
As a bisexual woman, wife, and mother in a big blended family, my days are anchored by connection, chaos, and pets who are inexplicably best friends. Living visibly in a mixed-orientation marriage means I actively disrupt the myth that bisexuality is a binary "phase"—I live comfortably in the both/and. It’s a daily reminder that love, desire, and identity don’t need to fit into anyone else's narrow categories to be valid, whole, and deeply real.
My partner and I are intentionally raising our kids to navigate patriarchal expectations with critical thinking, empathy, and self-awareness—doing the everyday work of raising heart-centered, emotionally intelligent young men and bold, shame-free women who know their worth is innate. It’s a busy yet grounded life, so I fiercely protect my solo morning coffee and evening time with my partner.
My soul is nourished by travel, strength training, yoga, "walk & talks," and reading multiple books at once. The beach is my happy place, but the mountains hold a permanent piece of my heart.
I grew up outside Boston, and while I’ve smoothed it out over the years, the accent still pops out when I’m tired or feeling fiery. After several years in Virginia, I’m back in New England (where the accent actually fits), and building this Collective is a lifelong dream realized. My goal for you is simple: I don't want you to just "get by" in your body—I want you to live your most unapologetic, pleasurable life.
